Part 3 – The H.O.P.E. Project Mission Task Summary
The following is a link to that summary of tasks/task teams associated with this new season mission effort that we have been promising. We are preparing together as one body, for how God might be shaping our church family, our company of the committed, for the unique part He is calling us to play towards completing His primary purpose on the earth.
The H.O.P.E. Project Commissioning will take place on Pentecost Sunday (May 23rd) and during the next 5 weeks a few things need to happen.
Firstly, please use the practical hints from the Part 2 email and start praying, reading scripture and seeking the Holy Spirit’s discernment and leading with regard to how He might be calling you to serve.
Secondly, have a look at the whole descriptive list of tasks below and note anything or any part of something that jumps out at you or you have some degree of response to.
Thirdly, spend a little time praying about what the spark might be speaking to you about more deeply, and when you have some initial clarity, let Heather know what task, tasks or part of tasks you believe that the Holy Spirit is giving you a spark in your spirit and heart about, by text or voice mail on 0410654807 or by email.
Once we have collected a few responses, we will start contacting people to schedule catch ups at convenient times, so we can seek more clarity as we pray together, explore more detail with regard to your response and start to discover what God’s plan might look like for each of us as we move forward faithfully.
Three Things to keep at the forefront of our hearts and minds as we journey
1. The tasks are simply tools to help us serve more comprehensively
It is vital that we don’t get so focused on the task that we lose sight of our need to be anchored to Jesus the vine. The closer we press into God; the greater will be our commitment to discipling and disciples and to lost people. As such the tasks we are called to perform will be about helping OTHERS get closer to Jesus, become committed to discipling and disciples and to grow in love for lost people. The tasks are NEVER about our status or our importance.
17 Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God. 18 I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me …. (ROMANS 15:17-18)
2. True Submission is about giving it ALL up and trusting Jesus
At a point to be determined just before the commissioning, we will ALL stand aside from any task we are currently performing on behalf of the church’s current mission, so that the Holy Spirit can re-appoint those He wants into the tasks He needs to empower and release. In this way we will never be about the task – ONLY about the task giver and the end game or outworking of God’s primary purpose.
The previous season of leadership development was actually about shifting and re-calibrating leadership to look more like Jesus and less like institutional or organizational leadership. We just needed to go on a journey as a church towards understanding what ‘sharing the responsibility’ for the mission could look like, rather than continuing to depend on 2 or 3 people to make things happen – a very limited and unbiblical view of developing ministry or servant leadership that looks like Jesus.
Yes, it is true that some tasks will continue beyond May 23rd, to be performed by people that are currently responsible for them, but let’s allow God to do the appointing so we can truly celebrate the church Jesus builds and not just depend upon or rely upon what we think we know.
3. ALL Tasks have implications for Kingdom Service and Collaboration
Be assured that whilst it is true that you and I are using this time to determine with the Holy Spirit how we each might pursue our own particular metron, scope of mission or calling in the context of our church’s mission future; it is equally true that as a church, we are committed to playing our part to see the kingdom advance in our communities, across our region and nation – into all the earth. Every task listed will have an application beyond the specific mission of the church and might be pressed into service beyond the spheres of our focused mission involvement. E.g. we already send worshippers and preachers to other churches who need that sort of service support. The local church is an agent for kingdom advance, or it probably isn’t a church that Jesus is building.
Finally, please remember that this is not an exhaustive list. We are seeking God together and what follows might inspire some ideas we haven’t thought of, which we will discern the appropriateness and effectiveness of together.
And … when you are reading God’s word and praying about the tasks, don’t forget that the Holy Spirit might give you someone else’s name associated with a task. Please let us know everything the Lord shows you when you make your response.
